Zen stories are simple, brief, and often quietly profound.
They don’t give answers – they invite insight.
Each one is a doorway to reflection, gently nudging us to look within and see the world with fresh eyes.
A new monk asked Master Joshu:
“I have just entered the monastery. Please teach me.”
Joshu asked:
“Have you eaten your rice porridge?”
The monk replied:
“I have eaten.”
Joshu said:
“Then you had better wash your bowl.”
At that moment, the monk was enlightened. ✨
Reflection:
True Zen isn’t found in grand teachings — it lives in the ordinary. Joshu’s words remind us that enlightenment lies in presence, in completing what we begin, in doing the next simple thing — with full attention.
When we keep chasing answers outside, we miss what’s right in front of us.
Maybe today, you don’t need more insight.
Maybe you just need to wash your bowl.
